Just a brief update to let you know what's been happening with the Internet Growth Alliance. We held our second meeting on Friday 10th July and made a lot of progress. Representatives from the Irish Internet Association, the Irish Software Association, the Digital Hub, Enterprise Ireland and the Institute of International and European affairs attended along with all the business advisors - Colm Lyon, Ray Nolan, Pat Phelan, Dylan Collins, Damien Mulley, Colm Healy, Breon Corcoran and Rob Corbet. Web 2 Ireland are now also involved with the Alliance.
We had Expertise, Funding, Networking and Policy on the agenda.
Expertise
Enterprise Ireland reported that the "Internet Growth Acceleration Programme" was progressing and the planned launch date for accepting applications was early September. This is will the most comprehensive Internet talent development programme undertaken to date, giving candidates a unique chance to learn, network and develop their internet growth plans.
Funding
The group is exploring ways to secure funds for early stage investment. Dylan Collins is leading this issue and initial discussions are taking place with three possible investment vehicles.
Network
We decided to hold off on organising any event for now.
Policy
Jill from the IIEA is leading this discussion and since July we have met other interested parties - including Darren from Digital 21 who has created significant momentum.
Thanks again to the many people who have contacted and supported this Alliance - we cannot call everyone back so we will issue updates on the various initiatives as progress is made.
